Module 3 — Soils & Gravels Testing
An intensive 5-day course in the correct soils and natural gravel test methods, presented by an Accredited Trainer. Two university sessions run in July 2026.

Overview
The course trains candidates in the correct soils and natural gravel test methods as per industry standards, delivers the theory component of deeming competent, and covers execution of testing procedures pertaining to soils and gravels materials to the latest SANS 3001 methods.

Course programme
Day 1
- Registration, introduction, ice breaker
- Introduction to soils & gravels
- Theory on the first method for soils & gravels testing — sample prep & grading
Day 2
- Multiple choice test
- Safety aspects in laboratories
- Theory on the second section — MDD & OMC
- Afternoon practical session
Days 3 – 5
- Multiple choice tests
- Theory on the third, fourth and fifth sections — CBR, grading, Atterberg
- Afternoon practical sessions
